Best Time to Visit Bhutan, Travel Tips & Sustainable Tourism Guide
The best time to visit Bhutan is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These seasons offer clear skies, pleasant temperatures, and the chance to experience vibrant Bhutanese festivals like Paro Tshechu and Thimphu Tshechu. These are ideal months for trekking in Bhutan, wildlife photography, and exploring its scenic mountain valleys.
International travelers enter Bhutan through Paro International Airport, the country’s only international gateway. While Indian citizens do not require a visa, they must secure an Entry Permit and possibly a Route Permit for specific regions beyond Thimphu and Paro.
For your Bhutan travel, pack comfortable walking shoes, layered clothing to adjust to fluctuating mountain weather, and modest attire for visiting monasteries and temples. A rain jacket, sunscreen, and UV-protected sunglasses are also recommended for your comfort and safety.
Bhutan follows a unique “High Value, Low Volume” tourism policy, which promotes sustainable travel and environmental conservation. This eco-conscious approach ensures the protection of Bhutan’s pristine forests, alpine meadows, and biodiverse national parks like Jigme Singye Wangchuck and Jigme Dorji—home to rare wildlife including red pandas, black-necked cranes, and elusive snow leopards.
Bhutan proudly enforces a plastic-free travel policy, supporting its vision as one of the world’s greenest and happiest countries. Visitors are encouraged to embrace Bhutan’s eco-friendly spirit while enjoying the authentic culture, spirituality, and natural beauty that make this Himalayan kingdom truly magical.
